An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.
The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his family member alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She said Ruben continued to conduct the "treat game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that point," she added.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the police once more.
She stated the defendant then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
